Everyone in Canada must be thinking, when are taxes due in 2022? The thing is that you must know the exact date of your tax submission. The tax filing season has almost started for the year 2022. So filing and paying the taxes on time is always a good idea. 

What is Canada's Recovery Sickness Benefit?

CRSB is an income support program to help individuals who feel unwell to work due to sickness. They need to be self-isolated due to COVID. It also supports the people who are at greater risk of getting COVID-19. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) administers this program.

Who is eligible for CRSB?

To be eligible for CRSB, you must fulfill the following requirements for the one-week period you are applying for:

Unable to work

Suppose you cannot work at least 50% of your work for the whole week. You may have contracted COVID-19, or the physician has advised you for self-isolation. 

Unable to enjoy other support programs

You are eligible for the CRSB program if you couldn't enjoy other support programs such as Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), Employment Insurance (EI), Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB), etc.  

Your residence

If you are a resident in Canada and are living in Canada for one week of applying, then you are eligible to apply for CRSB. 

Your age

Your age must be at least 15 years old, you can apply for Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB). 

Have a valid SIN

You can apply for CRSB if you have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN). 

How much can you get?

Through CRSB, you can get payment of $500 (before taxes withheld) for a 1-week period you apply. CRA deducts 10% tax from this amount, and so you get $450 for each one-week period in which you had applied.

By Online

You can apply for Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit online through your CRA my account. You may get asked various questions related to your income taxes information and registration confirmation by the CRA.

By Phone

You can easily apply for CRSB by a phone call to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). 

When to apply?

You can apply on the first Monday after the 1-week period you are using for has ended. After that, for each week, you have to apply separately. You can apply for the application up to 60 days after the period has ended. 

 

 

Time to take the action

The CRA always verifies your application for CRSB. Incomplete information leads to hindrance in your payment for up to 4 weeks. So always confirm the data before final submission. CRSB is an excellent initiative by the Government to support you in your hard times in COVID. So apply now for CRSB because your health should be your top priority
