Ontario workers qualified for the CWLB program between Dec 19, 2021, and March 5, 2022. After being jobless for some time, this program assisted Ontarians in returning to their homes or businesses.

2. How does it work?

The CWLB program assists employees who lost wages due to the lockdown. The worker must be in an affected area and meet other government standards.
The following are essential factors in this program:

1. The benefits are taxable and cost $300 per week ($500 per month).
2. The most number of weeks a worker can claim is six, with no extensions permitted.
3. Workers may also be eligible for a refund if their total benefit is less than $300 annually.

3. Ten Guidelines to Apply For Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit Program:

You can get this benefit program if you work in a lockdown region. Criteria to apply for this program include the following points:

  • You live in Canada.
  • You submitted your taxes in 2020.
  • You are unemployed due to the pandemic crisis.
  • You earned $5000 in 2020, 2021, or in the past 12 months before the day you applied for this program.
  • Your age is 15 or more than that.
  • You are self-employed but cannot continue the work due to covid lockdown.
  • You are working but have lost 50% or less than that in your average weekly income compared to the previous year.
  • You have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN).
  • The region where you work is under the Covid-19 lockdown pandemic.
  • You are not already receiving benefits from these programs: EI Benefits (IE), CRSB, CRCB, QPIP, and Short-Term Disability Benefits.

4. When To Apply For Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit Program?

You can apply online through “CRA My Account” or via phone and must use it within 60 days of your employment. The following are the conditions to apply:

1. You have to apply for each week to get paid. After that, the process for re-applying will be the same as before.
2. You must ensure you are still eligible for this program when you apply for the second time.
3. You should provide all the extra information CRA requires from you.
4. If you apply online, it will take 3-5 business days to receive payment.
5. If you have applied via mail, payment should arrive in 10-12 business days.

5. When did the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit end?

The Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit will be phased out on May 7, 2022. It extended for workers affected by worksite load limits, ending on February 12, 2022.
